The ridiculousness of it all.
I love both Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts although I would say that I go to Dunkin’ Donuts more than I do Starbucks. I can’t afford a daily cup of coffee at 4 bucks a pop and I simply enjoy a cup of Dunkin’ every day. I’m one of the most loyal Dunkin’ Donuts customer in my neighborhood. And when they came out with the Dark Roast blend, that was it. I will drink Dunkin’ Donuts coffee till the day I die.
The trending news around right now is the controversy with Starbucks and the backlash it faced when it anounced its design for its festive cups this year and replacing it with simple red cups with the Starbucks logo devoid of any holiday decor as you see above. Of course, the announcement faced some criticism labeling the move as a “war on Christmas”. But Starbucks did say that this year, the design is to represent the individual and to “give people a piece of calm.”
I have no problem with that. But then, the right-wing conservatives raised a huff. Why? Just because.
I don’t see anything wrong with it. According to the Starbucks website:
“Starbucks has become a place of sanctuary during the holidays,” he said. “We’re embracing the simplicity and the quietness of it. It’s more open way to usher in the holiday.”
Starbucks did not say that it will totally discontinue its festive designs for the future. It simply stated that this year, it opted to bring about a much simpler design representing a piece of calm.
So, when Dunkin’ Donuts revealed its design after the Starbucks backlash, the move trended on social media. This is not the first time that Dunkin’ had produce its holiday-themed cups. But because of the trending topic on Starbucks, this became big news.
I believe that there are so much political correctness rules already in place. Let us relax and enjoy the coffee. If you celebrate Christmas, sure – celebrate it. If not, celebrate your holiday. Let’s not make a big deal out of everything.
