This is why I never want to become famous. 🙂
Taylor Swift is being sued for plagiarism for her song “Shake It Off” released in 2014. Plaintiff Jesse Graham allegedly claims that his song Haters Gonna Hate is where Taylor Swift pulled the lyrics to her song Shake It Off. The words “‘Cause’ the players gonna play play play, Haters gonna hate hate hate hate” and “Fakers gonna fake fake fake fake” is somewhat similar to Jesse Graham’s lyrics to his Haters Gonna Hate song with words such as “Haters gone hate, playas gone play. Watch out for them fakers, they’ll fake you everyday.”
He is suing Taylor Swift for $42 million dollars and he is demanding that his name be added as one of the songwriters of Shake It Off.
First, I don’t know how plaintiffs come up with the dollar amount that they file in a lawsuit. Is it 42 million because uhm, what?
In any case, Swifts lawyers are probably laughing this off because there is such a thing called, “fair use doctrine” which allows some lyrics from another song be used in songwriting. Source
So, goodluck with that.
Oh, and BTW, Taylor Swift reportedly makes $4 Million for each performance according to Forbes. Yet, Katy Perry still topped her by a lot in 2015 – – $135 million!
