I mean I get it. She’s Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge. When someone is commissioned to paint your image, you get invited as the guest of honor for the unveiling of the painting, and asked about your opinion about it right after it was unveiled, what would you say?
Of course, as the Duchess, you cannot say, “I friggin hate it, indeed!”
So, what does Kate Middleton say? She says that the painting is “amazing!”
Are you kidding me? She looked 10 years older in the painting.
We understand that the Duchess wanted to be painted “naturally, her natural self, as opposed to her official self.” But I think it was a total fail for painter Paul Emsley. But hey, I’m not an artist and I am not going to pretend to be one. Who knows, maybe because the painting is “not so pretty”, that it will sell billions at Christie’s sometime in the future. The art world has a weird way of pricing art pieces. Have you ever wondered how much Edvard Munch‘s “The Scream” has sold for and why? It was sold in 2011 in the price range of 250 to 300 million US dollars. So, who knows?
What do you think about the portrait?
