Gay News Today: Bits and pieces of everything gay. Gays and Lesbians are good parents, study shows, Swimmer Ian Thorpe continues to defend himself against gay rumors (VIDEO).

Who would have thought otherwise?

Study shows that gays and lesbians are as good parents as their straight couple counterparts. Baltimore Sun reports:

More than 30 years of scientific research have shown that children do best when raised by two loving, committed parents, regardless of gender. This is the conclusion reached by a comprehensive review of virtually every study on the subject conducted by sociologists Judith Stacey and Tim Biblarz in 2010.

Moreover, the so-called “studies” that claim that children of gay and lesbian parents fare worse than children of heterosexual couples have been exposed as deeply flawed by the Chronicle of Higher Education and The Baltimore Sun, among others.

Every major children’s health and welfare organization, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Child Welfare League of America, the American Psychological Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the National Association of Social Workers, and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, confirms that gay parents make good parents. The American Medical Association, the nation’s largest and most well respected association of physicians, with a membership of more than 200,000, agrees.

The Jewish community has been involved in every major civil rights fight in American history. We know, thanks to our all-too-painful memory of the ancestors we lost due to intolerance and hate mongering, that those who marginalize and diminish any minority group should put us all on alert.

The struggle for LGBT equality is no different. I am an American who is proudly Jewish and proudly gay. The LGBT community needs support, and the Jewish community needs to be at the forefront, not just because of b’tzelem elohim but because it is the right thing to do. There is only one choice for both the LGBT community and the Jewish community, and that choice is President Barack Obama.

“Yeah, look, the thing that I find hurtful about it is that people are questioning kind of my integrity and what I say,” Thorpe said. “That’s the only part that I find hurtful. Like is that, you know, this is something that I would be embarrassed about, that I would hide or whatever else.”

He also clarified, “I don’t want to offend anyone that, you know, whether they’re people [who] have friends that are gay or whatever else, I don’t want to offend them by…getting angry about it, getting frustrated about it. The only part that I’m frustrated with is that people think that I’m lying.”
