Featherweight boxer Orlando Cruz comes out. Boxing’s first openly gay man.

Oh no!  What would Pacman do?

Yes folks, Orlando Cruz is an active boxer who has been fighting in the ring for more than 24 years.  He is the first active boxer to admit that he is gay.

“I’ve been fighting for more than 24 years and as I continue my ascendant career, I want to be true to myself.”

“I want to try to be the best role model I can be for kids who might look into boxing as a sport and a professional career. I have and will always be a proud Puerto Rican. I have always been and always will be a proud gay man.”

I must remind you that the stigma of being gay is slowly disappearing.  More and more sports and other public figures are coming out.  Being true to oneself is a good thing.  Having visible gay role models in this world is a positive thing.  This would show younger generations that gays are not the stereo-typical gays they have seen over the years.  Gay people are real people and sometimes, you idolize someone not because they’re gay but because of what they do.  And the more positive gay role models we have, the better for our youth.
