The backlash has started against Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, the world-famous Filipino boxer who, after an interview with the Examiner, voiced out his opinion about same-sex marriage after being asked about his position
Courage Campaign has started a petition to Nike asking the company to drop Manny Pacquiao and remove his relationship to their brand.
Like I stated before, Manny Pacquiao is entitled to his own opinion just like anyone else. The miscommunication here is that Manny never quoted Leviticus 20:13. It was an injection of the journalist, Granville Ampong who admitted that Manny did not quote the verse which says,”if a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.” that got the attention of many LGBT allies.
Pacquiao issued a statement after the news hit the world stages saying:
“I didn’t say that, that’s a lie… I didn’t know that quote from Leviticus because I haven’t read the Book of Leviticus yet,” [Pacquiao] said.
Pacquiao explained his true feelings towards the gay community.
Pacquiao said: “I’m not against gay people… I have a relative who is also gay. We can’t help it if they were born that way. What I’m critical off are actions that violate the word of God. I only gave out my opinion that same sex marriage is against the law of God,”
As explained in previous pieces this is more in line with the Manny Pacquiao ,we have come to know, and work with over the years.
Now, if you saw the petition, will you sign it because of this miscommunication from a conservative journalist trying to stir things up? I wouldn’t.
