While growing up, I was afraid to watch anything that would give away that I am gay. When An Early Frost with Adian Quinn was aired on national TV, I didn’t even watch it since I was afraid that my parents may get the indication that I am gay. But I don’t worry about that anymore. It was a story about a young man who contracted the HIV virus. There wasn’t even any kissing scene on it.
The world has totally changed. Days of Our Lives finally aired its first same-sex kiss and I am pleased that more and more shows are showing that we are a part of society and that there’s nothing to be afraid of. With Darren Criss (Blaine) and Chris Colfer’s (Kurt) same-sex teenage romance on Glee, I could say that we are almost there… but not quite. We still have a lot of work to do to gain equality.
