Iranian actress ‘facing lashing’ – 90 lashes and a year in jail for role in movie, My Tehran for Sale (VIDEO)

Marzieh Vafamehr starred in the 2009 Australian film My Tehran for Sale, about an actress whose work is banned.  Details on what the cause for the sentencing was from her role in the film was not clear.  Producers Kate Croser and Julie Ryan  were “shocked and apalled” and believe that it was due to the fact that the actress appeared in the film without a head scarf or veil (hijab).

Others believe that it was because the film had portrayed Iran and Iranians in a bad light.

The Australian-produced film, My Tehran for Sale premiered at the 2009 Adelaide Film Festival and has also been shown at the Rotterdam Film Festival and the Global Lens programme at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

Even though the film was never shown in Iran, it has made its way into the black market.
